Wilsons fame surpassed that of the United States in 2014 when she landed a role on Showtimes The Affair. In the show, Wilson performed the role of Alison Lockhart who is a young, troubled girl who comes from a rough background. Lockhart has a crush on an unmarried Noah Solloway. Wilson was honored with the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in the Television Series in Drama 2015, along with Mauratierney and Joshua Jackson. Wilson spoke to British Vogue back in 2015, said that she enjoyed being able to play characters with two different perspective. Noah considers that Alison is this confident, sexy and reckless self-image. However, in reality, Alison views herself as being dowdy. The actress said: "I do believe America is morally and judging, so what happens in the show appears to be surprising." Wilson was the one who quit The Simpsons in 2018 did not provide any details. In an August 2018 interview on CBS This Morning, Wilson stated that she did wish to quit the show, but wasn't allowed to explain what the reason was. Wilson is now focusing on films. She starred in the 2016 film of horror I Am the Pretty Thing who lives in the house, and also played the mysterious PT Stella character in the 2017 sci-fi rom-com How to Talk to Girls at Parties. Adding more of the terror genre to her credits, she's scheduled to appear in the British film version of The Little Stranger a supernatural thriller that is based upon the novel written by Sarah Waters. Wilson will also produce the film.
